Fancy Friday #1

Hey Hey! How’s it going internet? So, here’s the thing, I’m not usually a huge fan of weekly series, mainly because I always forget to keep up with them. That being said, um, I’m starting a weekly series called Fancy Friday! How’s that for illogical? Basically, I just want the chance to dress up once a week. I thought I’d kick things off with one of my most favorite items in my closet, a polka dot ballgown skirt from Shabby Apple. This is actually the first time I’ve worn it. It needs about 8 inches hemmed off of it still, but it did ok for the photo shoot. Besides, it was so fun to have all of that extra material to play around with! I did these last night after I put the kids to bed. The sun was shining & the light was perfect for taking pictures. However, by the time I finished getting ready, the skies had become overcast & there were sporadic rumbles of (thankfully) distant thunder. I was already dressed & ready to go though, so I followed through. Oh my gosh, you guys… it was so freaking hot & humid out there. Let’s just say I won’t be recommending this outfit for a smoldering summer day. Yikes. Also? I was having an amazing hair day. Like, SO good. That lasted for about all of 90 seconds by the time I stepped outside. I’m not exaggerating when I say that my hair was twice the size at the end of the photo shoot that it was at the beginning. It was kind of fascinating watching it grow ¬†;)¬†Whatever though. It’s all good. I had fun & almost fell off a tire swing, so, you know, all in a day’s work. This blogging business is serious stuff, yo.

The minute I saw this skirt posted on Instagram, I knew I had to have it. I had NO clue where I was going to wear it, but that didn’t stop me from ordering it anyway. I tried to make it a little less fancy by adding my denim shirt & some laid-back accessories.

If you follow me on Instagram, you may have have seen a picture I posted of me trying (& failing) to get the perfect jump shot. I eventually gave up & just decided to dance. And by dance, I mean shake my skirt around like a 4 year old. I won’t lie, it was fun.

A few dancing outtakes. My hair was out of control, obviously.

Since I’d already headed down the path of immaturity, I went ahead & jumped on the tire swing. I’d share the pictures of me almost falling off, but they’re pretty blurry. That’s my story & I’m sticking to it.

Seriously though, you guys, this skirt is amazing (have I said that yet?). If you have any occasion to wear it, go grab one now. It’s not cheap, but it’s very, very, special. I’ll always pay a little extra for special;)

I’ll be honest, there’s no reason for this picture other than the fact that I think it turned out cool. And don’t we all need a picture of ourselves that make us feel cool?

Shirt – JCrew (last seen here) It’s old, but here’s a link to the closest current version.

Skirt – Shabby Apple. It’s the Waltzing Matilda skirt. I mean, seriously. How perfect. Also? I just noticed they paired theirs with a denim shirt too. Great minds.

Lipstick – Nars Heat Wave. The best lipstick in the world.

I’ve had all the jewelry for quite awhile. I know that I bought the ring & long necklace during Fashion Week in Chicago last October & the shorter necklace I bought at the Renegade Craft Fair in Chicago last December. I’ll have to see if I can find the info for them, because they’re pretty great.

Heather - LOVE it all! Everything in this post. That skirt is to die! You’re so beautiful and so dang awesome. I really enjoy reading your blog.

APRIL - Aw, thank you SO much, Heather! You’re the sweetest!
